About the upcoming version :
Q: What is IOverFlow?
A: IOverFlow is a video game, a "shooter on rails" to be more precise. In IOverFlow, the player shoots his way through ennemies in a 3D environment.
Q: Yet another shoot-em-up videogame? Big deal.
A: Not exactly. IOverFlow will be a very different, musical experience. Here's why:
- No music is supplied with the game. The player has to choose his/her favorite music, load it up in his/her favorite player (Winamp for example) and then start the game.
- The 3D environment will react to the music that's currently playing. Walls and enemies will change color, bounce, or change shape to the sound of the music playing.
- Unlike most shooter, the look and feel of the game will quite abstract. It will be based on simple 3D shapes, wireframe graphics, and simple polygons. (If you've seen the movie Tron, or played the Sega videogame Rez, you'll get an idea of the type of look we're trying to attain.
Q: What platforms are supported?
A: Currently, only Win32 platforms are supported. However, a Linux version is not out of the question...eventually!
Q: What are the system requirements?
A: It's hard to say for the moment, since the program is far from complete. (We're hoping this will run smoothly on a 1Ghz+ machine.)
About the future of IOverFlow :
Q: How can IOverFlow be used?
A: One it has reached version 1.0, Users will be able to use IOverFlow as either :
- A video game : Shoot your way through waves of ennemies, and enjoy the background that beats to the music you're listening to.
- A screensaver : Enjoy IOverFlow as a fancy 3D screensaver that will react to the music currently playing.
- Who knows? A Peer-to-peer engine might be added eventually. This would allow for chatting between players, swapping music, etc.
Q: Can I create my own levels?
A: Absolutely! This is one of IOverFlow's main attraction; Anyone will be able to add his level to the IOverFlow Universe. The website will keep track of statistics so you'll know how many people are using your level.
Q: How can I help?
A: We're glad you asked! Please see the Project page for details.
